About Green Flash Brewing: A small company with big ideas.
Mike and Lisa Hinkley took their interest in the craft beer industry to a new level in 2002 when they founded Green Flash Brewing Company. Former pub owners, Mike and Lisa jumped into brewing, and in 2004 renowned brewmaster Chuck Silva joined the team.
With Chuck on board we began brewing premium style beers, modern twists on traditional styles, and our beers began to develop a following. Cutting edge brews, Green Flash Brewing Company’s beers don’t fit traditional guidelines, instead we let our hybrid, benchmark beers blaze their own trail.
Located in San Diego, CA, we specialize in brewing assertive and distinctive beers, such as our West Coast I.P.A.: an award-winning beer whose wide acceptance has helped define a category. We also brew seasonal, collaborative and barrel-aged beers.
Our award-winning beers are on draft and bottled and are available throughout the United States in bars, restaurants and retail outlets.

Two years and one day ago, Jake and I (and Buddy) started this little venture of Special Brews on a Friday (April 29th). We hoped that there were other craft beer geeks in the neighborhood that felt like us- always having to drive to far places and even farther for a good selection of brew. Today, we have over 1,000 different beers available and ciders/mead too! Our customers have been so wonderful: muggers, locals from our neighborhood, people who work in the neighborhood, and most of all, everyone who loves beer! We want to also mention, our amazing staff- Annie L, Clint, Dan, Nick, and the other staff that have been with us- Caroline and Sam, we appreciate you all! Thank you for a fantastic two years, and we hope to continue our quest for great beer with all of you!
Our second anniversary party will be June 8th, details to come!

Special Brews Newsletter #9 – October 4th, 2011
Wednesday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:30pm we will be hosting Lance from Deschutes Brewery for a tasting:
Fresh Hop Mirror Pond Ale
This noble, fresh hop version of our classic American pale ale arose from a single plot of heirloom Cascade hops. Revived by our brewers from the original rootstock developed at Oregon State University, grown by Goshie Farms in Oregon, this very limited release is just for you.
Alc. 5% | IBUs 40
Jubelale
A dark, malty celebration ale with layered flavors and beautifully balanced hopping. Jubelale pours deep garnet in color, medium bodied, with notes of chicory, earth, spice and fruit. To beer lovers, it’s like Yule fire and family.
Alc. 6.7% | IBUs 60
Hop in the Dark
Can an IPA be black? Semantics aside, this noir version has subtle coffee undertones born of a blend of oats with dark, Munich and crystal malts. What emerges is something deeper, less orthodox, and all its own. After 22 trial runs in our Bend and Portland pubs, we got it right.
Alc. 6.5% | IBUs 70
Hop Trip
Each year around Labor Day, Deschutes brewers high-tail it over the pass to Doug Weather’s hop fields near Salem for the harvest. After bagging these aromatic jewels, we hustle back and toss them into the brew kettles within four hours of picking. Our reward: a pale ale with a uniquely bright citrus punch and fall spice. It’s something only Deschutes would take past the idle-talk stage.
Alc. 5.4% | IBUs 38

Fresh Hop IPA
50 pounds of fresh hops went into this beer; Centennial, Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra. Big aroma gives way to a green hop flavor followed by strong notes of tropical fruits like passion fruit, guava and star fruit. 72 IBUs.
6.6% ABV
Bitter Rain ESB
ESB stands for Extra Special Bitter. Seven different kinds of grains give this beer a very interesting malt profile. A balanced dose of Centennial and Goldings hops make this a very satisfying ESB.
5.8% ABV
ON CASK:
Dry Hopped Big R Imperial Red Ale
Lots of malt and lots of hops means there's lots going on in this ale!! The initial full bodied malt start to this beer gives way to a lingering spicy bitter finish. You might want to use both hands when steering this one - this is one to chew on! This special cask version has also been dry hopped with Galaxy hops in the cask!

Special Brews - Newsletter #5
This Wednesday (9/14/11) we will be hosting a tasting with
Alaskan Brewing Company from 5:30 – 8:00pm
hosted by Greg Heitman from Alaskan Brewing.
We will be pouring the following into 4oz tasters for only $3:
Alaskan White
Brewed with coriander, bitter orange peel and malted wheat, Alaskan White Ale has a light and crisp body pleasant tartness followed by slightly spicy aftertaste. The malted wheat gives the beer a more full and lightly malty mouthfeel. There is an aroma and flavor of wheat and coriander, with a dry and refreshingly carbonated finish.
ABV 5.3%
Alaskan IPA
Alaskan IPA is honey gold in color with a fruity, citrus aroma. An enticing blend of hops and our dry hopping process, in which hops are added directly to tanks during fermentation, give this brew a very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing hop finish.
ABV 6.2%
Alaskan Smoked Porter
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.
ABV 6.5%
Alaskan Oatmeal Stout
The unique blend of the oats and malts in Alaskan Stout produce a balanced, smooth beer with hints of chocolate, coffee and caramel.
28 IBUs.
ABV 5.7%
Alaskan 25th Anniversary
Alaskan Perseverance Ale is a Russian Imperial Stout. This style was chosen to celebrate our 25th anniversary of brewing on the Last Frontier in our coastal home of Juneau, Alaska.
This complex and malt forward Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskan’s history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.
This limited edition Imperial Stout is brewed with glacier-fed water, birch syrup from the Alaska Birch Syrup Co., fireweed honey from Alaskan Bee Apiaries, brown sugar and an array of different malts including malted oats and a dash of our world famous alder-smoked malt.
The sturdy flavors in Alaskan Perseverance Ale pair well with rich and savory proteins ranging from fresh oysters to wild game meats. Custards, dark chocolate truffles, New York cheesecake and other creamy desserts bring out the the sweeter notes of fireweed honey, oats and brown sugar
Original Gravity: 1.093, ABV: 9.0%, Bitterness: 50 IBU, Color: 140 SRM
